To get to the Photos Repair Library tool on your Mac, follow these steps:

Use PowerPhotos to find duplicate photos in one or more libraries, view them side by side, and separate them into albums where you can easily delete them from your library. Browse and search Use PowerPhotos' image browser to quickly view your photos without having to open Photos itself. Create a new photo library. If the Photos app on your Mac is open, choose Photos Quit Photos. Hold down the Option key and double-click the Photos icon in the Applications folder (or click the Photos icon in the Dock) to open Photos. In the Choose Library dialog, click Create New. Type a library name and choose a location to store the library. The new library works. Removed new (working library) put back the old library. Repaired library (CMD+ALT upon opening app). Ran First Aid on disk from Recovery OS. Will try to remove faulty library and copy the same library from Time Machine backup. My library was not in the '/Photos/' when i upgraded to. Tried to open Photos but got following message: Photos cannot find the System Photo Library named “Photos Library.photoslibrary” Checked and no “Photos Library.photoslibrary” file was present in Pictures folder. Restarted Photos and chose to open the 75GB “Photos Library.photoslibrary” on the old/now external HD but got following.

  1. If Photos is open, close the app. Then, while you click to open Photos, hold down the Command and Option keys at the same time.
  2. In the window that opens, click Repair to start the repair process. You might be asked to enter your user account password.

The Repair Library tool analyzes the library's database and repairs any inconsistencies it detects. Depending on the size of your library, the repairs might take some time. When the process is done, Photos opens the library.

If you repair a library that's used with iCloud Photos, iCloud checks the library after the repair process completes to ensure everything is synced correctly.
